Tuesday January 31 We enjoyed a yummy breakfast of rice and stir fry with cabbage and tofu. Several village ladies came to visit. We all sat down on the floor because they are intimidated by how tall we are. Lisa, with her daughter Memewah translating, was able to determine some of their needs and help them. She gave the two ladies with small children milk, gave the older ladies massage oil for their sore knees and backs. Also gave some them some vitamins and herbal remedies.
Monday January 30 We got up a bit later than we wanted to, because of the late night. We had a lot to do, packing up and getting ready for the adventure to the border. Jon left to get the van detailed before returning it, and the kids and I got the laundry and breakfast and finished packing. He finally found a place but they said it would take an hour and a half, so he went to get Chris and the kids and take them to the bus station, then come get us. Traffic was heavy, so by
Sunday January 29 We woke up at 7:30, so tired still, and my back still hurting some. We had planned to leave at 8 for Wat Rong Khun, the white temple, but couldn't. Jon contacted Gop to ask if he could go back to the church and look for the card. He said he would and asked us to pray while he went. So we spent time praying. Then Jon looked though again. He found his little adapter, by the way, in a little fold in his bag! But not the card. I went to shower and while I w
Sabbath January 28 Going to a Lahu village with the team this morning. Have to be ready by 8:30. Jon and James left at 6:30 to go shooting. They took the motorbike. They had tried to take the van, but it didn't want to go in reverse. Mary Ann and I got our showers before they got back, so they were going to shower and we were going to go to breakfast. I was walking out the door of our room with the leftovers from last night, which Frame had left with us so we could have
Friday January 27 We went looking for breakfast but not much was available. It is Chinese New Year and most of the restaurants are not open yet. We finally gave up and walked all the way to the Corner Cafe again. They were only serving western food, no Thai food, because of Chinese New Year. So we had western breakfast. :( Afterward we walked back to the rooms and made arrangements so we could leave our luggage and have rooms for tomorrow night when we come back. They were
Thursday January 26 It was good to sleep in after not sleeping well. The pillows here are too thick for my neck. Jon got his shower and headed out to pick up the "van" we will be borrowing from a church member here. It will be a blessing and will give us flexibility in our travel plans. It seats 7, so having 8 or 9 in it will be extra fun. :) Once he came back, he and the kids took our laundry down to the place down the street where they charge 40 baht per kilo of laundry.
Wednesday January 25. Sukhothai to Chiang Mai. We were tired and slept longer than we should have this morning! We want to see the old city and then take a bus to Chiang Mai. Jon went out to the desk and asked and they said they could get us on a 11:50 bus, so we needed to hurry and get ready to go to the old city. Then she said we could get a 1 pm bus, so we thought we'd have time for breakfast and worship. We went out in a little salah (like a gazebo) in the yard and ha
Tuesday January 24. Today we were a bit slow getting around. We had gone to bed late and Jon and I had too much to do online this morning. Finally had worship around 8:30. Jon shared a few verses from Hebrews 6:13-15, and we talked about what we can learn from them. Then we shared how we saw God working especially yesterday. One thing was that we saw how God took our opportunity to meet with Greg Whitsett that day and gave us the opportunity to meet this missionary instead
Monday January 23. We had worship together and Lilyann shared about Enoch from the Conflict and Courage devotional. We were all encouraged by it. We had breakfast at Ricky's because everywhere else was closed. Monday is a holiday for some people here, and many shops were closed. The orange juice lady was gone too! We had planned for the crew to go to the Thailand Adventist Mission (TAM) headquarters and interview Greg Whitsett and get a tour, but he hadn't responded to Jon'
Sunday the 22nd. 7:05 am. Waiting at the front of the guest house eating snacks from home and 7-11 for breakfast so we don't miss our minibus to the floating market. Tired. Jet lag still working on us! Minibus came a few minutes early and we got in. Driver picked up the other tour people and we left about 7:35 for the hour and a half drive. It's always interesting to see the countryside as we drive. You can see the huge disparity between lifestyles, from the very wealthy to
